Chieko Farrell's Obituary
Chieko Farrell passed away peacefully on Monday October 17th at The Village Senior Living Center in Lakewood, WA after living a life filled with adventures, many hobbies and interests.
Chieko was born on September 5th 1935 in Japanese Formosa (now Taiwan). As a child after the war, she returned to Japan where she studied and became a member of the school’s ping pong team, winning many competitions and tournaments! It was in Japan where she met her future husband, a young US Army serviceman, where they travelled across the USA as well as overseas and were able to visit many of the countries in the Far East while they were stationed in Okinawa.
Chieko had many hobbies and interest ranging from making ceramics to flower arranging that led to silk flower making. She also had done crocheting and sewing and loved throwing parties to showcase her hostessing and culinary skills.
She had many lifetime achievements including attainment of Grand Life Master in Contract/Duplicate Bridge. But her real passion was the game of golf – rain or shine, she was on the course. While stationed in Ft. Lewis, WA, Chieko was elected as President of the Ft. Lewis Ladies Golf Association, and a few years later achieved Hole in One (on the 12th hole)! Her other timeless passion was fashion, where she was always ahead of her time.
Chieko lived a full life and is predeceased by her husband Patrick M. Farrell, Sr. She is survived by her son Patrick M. Farrell, Jr. of Lakewood, Washington and her daughter and son-in-law Rosemary and Dennis Chapdelaine of Potomac, Maryland. She is also survived by grandson Patrick M. Farrell III and great grandson Patrick M. Farrell IV. Also surviving are stepchildren Rebekah and Zachariah Farrell.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR on Tuesday, October 25th at a Private Service at the grave site.
The family would like to thank all of the thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning and request that In lieu of flowers that donations be sent to your local Humane Society.
A very special thanks is extended to the staff at the Village Senior Living Center and Madigan Army Medical Center for all the kindness and care they provided to Chieko during her final days.
