Charles E. (Shorty) McPhersonCharles E. (Shorty) McPherson, 82, was born in Columbus, Mississippi in 1921 and passed away July 27th in Tacoma. Shorty had lived in Tacoma since 1967. He served his country in the Air Force for 26 years in World War II and in such far-flung places as Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, New Guinea, Christmas Island, Columbia, and Germany. Among the medals and citations he received were the Presidential Unit Citation Award and the Air Force Commendation Award.He also worked for the Clover Park School District.Shorty was a shy, generous, thoughtful, loving man and a wonderful husband, daddy, granddad and papa Shorty to his family.He loved reading, fishing, and watching the Mariners, especially Edgar. He is survived by his wife, Fran of 59 years; his children, Becky (Jim) Hester and Chuck (Thim); his grandchildren, James (Sarah) Hester, Sarah Hester, and Jennifer McPherson; and his great grandchildren, Anna, Abigail, and Jahleah. He is also survived by two brothers, Jesse and Jack; his two sisters, Ethel and Anne, all of Alabama.Graveside services will be at 2:30 P.M., Friday, August 1, 2003 at Tahoma National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Washington Chapter, P.O. Box 75169, Seattle, WA 98175-0169.
