Byron James Berge
Byron James Berge was born to Lawrence and Lillian Berge on February 2, 1953 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Byron lived in Minneapolis until he joined the Navy. After being stationed at Whidbey Island, he decided to stay in Washington and studied at Walla Walla Community College. Byron earned an Associates of Arts and Science in Engineering Technology. He also was a student teacher in the mathematics department and was known for his ability to help struggling students understand difficult math concepts.
In 1989, Byron moved to Tacoma, Washington, where he married Patricia Hender, and they had one child together, Sarah Lynn. Byron was a loving father who truly cherished his daughter. He attended all Sarah’s school and college activities, and they enjoyed gardening, picking apples, attending Farmer’s Market, reading, bicycling, and playing chess together.
Byron also enjoyed reading books and watching movies about military history and science. He remembered everything he ever read or watched, and liked to test his memory while watching Jeopardy.
Byron was employed by Puget Sound Surgical as a biomed technician, and during his treatments and stay at the hospital, he enjoyed sharing with doctors and medical staff how much he knew about their instruments.
Byron passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 28. He was proceeded in death by his parents Lawrence and Lillian Berge and sisters, Nancy and Janet Berge.
Byron leaves behind his daughter, Sarah Haithcox (Stephen); a brother, Steve Berge (Linda) and extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Lakewood, 5400 112th Street, SW, Lakewood, Washington on Monday, June 6 at 3:00 p.m.
