Burns Poe's Obituary
Burns was born to Elsie and Robert Burns Poe on June 20, 1922 and passed away on February 28, 2009. Burns attended Tacoma Public Schools and graduated from Stadium High School in 1940. He served his country in WWII as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army air Corps. In 1947, Burns married Phyllis Hoskins and they raised their three children in Fircrest. Phyllis preceded him in death in 1981. In 1983, Burns married Bea Adams and she passed away in 2002.
Burns was president and owner of Hawkins-Poe Real Estate, Inc. from 1959 to his retirement in 1984. He was past president of the Tacoma-Pierce County Real Estate Association and was presented with the Life Member Award in Recognition of a Lifetime of Outstanding Service to the Real Estate Industry in 1987. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Washington Real Estate Educational Foundation and received the Presidents Gavel from the Society of Real Estate Appraisers.
Burns was a member of the Fircrest Golf Club since 1959. His father made a hole-in-one in the early 30's and Burns finally made his own hole-in-one in 1990. This feat was replicated in 2003.
He is survived by his children: Robert Poe (Mary),Gary Poe (Julie), and Debra Dahl (Robert); grandchildren: Alyssa Poe Ryan (Connor), Ross Poe, James Dahl, Nick Dahl and great grandchild, William Poe Ryan. Burns is also survived by siblings: Helen Goodrich (Jim) of Portland, Maine, and David Poe (Marie) of Tacoma, and of course his constant companion "Charlie" the Scotty dog. We love our Dad and will miss him dearly.
