Bradford Daniel Stewart's Obituary
Bradford Daniel “Danny” Stewart was born on Nov 15, 1989 in Phoenix, AZ and passed away at age 27 on May 21, 2017 in Tacoma, WA. He lived with his parents Vincent and Tamara Stewart and his two brothers Vincent Orion and Duncan Alexander Stewart in Sierra Vista, AZ and Lakewood, WA. Several of his half-brothers, half-sisters, nieces and nephews still live in Phoenix, AZ.
He flourished as a young gymnast at the Lakewood YMCA, on their Boy’s Competitive Team, as well as an assistant coach in middle school and high school earning first his USA Gymnastics Junior Pro credentials at 14 then his Pro credentials at 16. He won 3rd place in the Vault at the Region II YMCA Gymnastics Championships. He went on to teach and coach gymnastics for the YMCA for 6 years, and developed materials on strength training for gymnastics skills for volunteers working with the gymnastics programs at the YMCA in Puyallup, WA.
Singing for Danny was pure joy! He found calm, strength, and grounding when he sang. He studied under fantastic choir directors who cultivated his musical education, and provided opportunities to perform as a member of school choirs and with the Tacoma Youth Chorus, starting the first year they had a Young Men’s Choir. With TYC he sang in the Canterbury Cathedral, Wales, and Ireland as well as local venues. He competed in Solo and Ensemble contests and Steilacoom Idol and at the Western Washington Fair. As a freshman in high school, Danny auditioned and was selected for the Washington All State Choir. As a sophomore at the Tacoma School of the Arts, he auditioned and was selected for the 6-state Regional Honor Choir.
As an adult, Danny’s passions turned to philosophy and science. He moved to New Hampshire to be an activist for Libertarian ideals, but continued reading and learning about economics and human actions in society. Returning to Washington, his plans were to continue his formal education in the sciences.
Danny wanted to change the world, to make it better for those suffering as he did from anxiety and depression. He studied methods of meditation and mindfulness for himself and shared it with others. While he claimed to be an atheist, he always wrote “Jedi” as his religion and was a fanatical Star Wars enthusiast. He left us too soon, but as a happy and determined young man.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Tacoma Youth Chorus on firstgiving.com, the choral group that gave Danny so many friends and provided so much joy. Please enter in the comments "in remembrance of Bradford Daniel Stewart."
