Betty Jean Howells' Obituary
A much-loved mother and grandmother, Betty Jean Howells, 89, of Rainier, WA, passed away peacefully at Madigan Hospital on Joint Base Lewis Mchord, WA surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on May 13, 1936 in Blackfoot, Idaho to George and Eva Archibald. She married John Melvin Howells on August 25, 1952 at the age of 16. Together shared a loving life while they raised 6 daughters, while John served in the US Army.
Betty will be remembered for her love of quilting and sewing, and most of all for her deep devotion to her family. She brought warmth and comfort to every family gathering. Her legacy of love, devotion and care will live on through the generations she helped build.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband John in 2008 and her eldest daughter Debrah Jean Erickson in 2024. She is survived by her daughters Laurie (Terry) Cantzler, Teena (Rick, deceased 1993) Scott, Myrna (Daniel) Jorgensen, Mona (Myron) Michaelis, Mira (Scott) Silva along with 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at 12:00 p.m. with the graveside service at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday October 14, 2025, at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Tacoma, WA. The family will have a small gathering for all after the services at The Eagles Club 11609 Koeppen RD SE Yelm WA 98597 from 3:30 to 6:00pm.
