Bertha M. Davis' Obituary
Bertha Mae Davis died after a long battle with cancer Aug. 14, 2004 at the age of 65. She was a graduate of Clover Park High School, and later Western Washington University. She worked with the department of Social and Health Services in Tacoma for 37 years. In February 1971 she married Joe Louis who precedes her in death.Bertha was an avid reader, and enjoyed the theater. She loved exotic locales and cultures, and traveled throughout the West Indies, the Caribbean and Mexico. She served as President of the Black WomenÂ's Caucus of WA, was past President of the MatronÂ's Club of Tacoma; was a shop steward for Washington Federation of State Employees; and participant of the Family Consumer Sciences Committee at Curtis High School. Bertha was a long standing member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, and later became a member of the Body of Christ Christian Church.Bertha is survived by her daughter Mary Catherine Davis, father Ulysees Pearson, sisters Claudia Daniels, Barbara Washington, and Mary Lee Bell (Henry), brothers Akil Azizi and Alvin J. Darby (Donella). She will be remembered as the butterfly that flew into many lives and is now the guardian angel to all of those who knew her. Visitation begins Friday, August 20, from 1-9 pm at Mt. View Funeral Home. Services are Saturday August 21, 2004 at 1pm in Mt. View Valley Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please give to the Black WomenÂ's Caucus of WA and the Matrons Club of Tacoma.
