My husband, Don, and I would like to express our condolences to you and your families on the passing of Berta. My husband and I have been neighbors of hers for the past 23 years, though my husband also knew her for several years prior to that.
I always enjoyed talking to her when she was out for her walk and I was working in the yard. She was a very nice lady and we will miss her.
My husband is well aware of her love of animals. Many years ago , when his daughters were small, they had a little dog named Patches. One day Patches was down on the corner by Berta's house because there was a female dog in heat down that way. The Humane Society came by and was going to take Patches, but Berta went out and convinced him that if he were going to take anyone, it should be the female. Anyway, the little girls who owned him would be heartbroken if Patches was taken away. Needless to say, she was very convincing and that was exactly what he did. She made two little girls very happy that day.
Again, please accept our condolences and know that you all will be in our prayers in the days to come. Every time I work in my front yard, I will watch for Berta's spirit to walk by.##imported-begin##Dorothy Wharton##imported-end##
