Asako Okura's Obituary
Asako Okura (Kawamura) was born February 09th, 1938 in Iwataken Japan. As a small child she moved with her family to Tokyo. In 1962 she met and married an American serviceman Charles E. Guillory and had two children, Richard Joseph and Brenda Marie. She immigrated to the United States with her husband and children shortly after in December of 1964. After living for a short while in base housing on Ft. Lewis, Washington she moved to Tacoma, Washington where she lived for the rest of her life. A second marriage to George Thomas produced a son Robert (Bobby) Thomas who preceded her in death in 1990 and who she always talked about seeing again someday. Asako is survived by her son Richard Guillory (Francine) and daughter Brenda Alton (Tim) grandchildren Corey, Tyler, (Florida) Mark, Robert, Richard, Mika, Kalila (Lakewood), and Lilliannejoy (Steilacoom), as well as numerous great-children. A housekeeper by vocation for McChord AFB for over 33 years, she made many lifelong, devoted friends and was herself, one in return. Mom was a member of the Tanpopo club for many years as well as a member of the SGI-USA Buddhist organization for over 46 years. Mom was known as Penny to most people and Asakosan or Asachan to her friends. She was always ready to help anyone who needed her help or to offer the help of her children. Mom resided at Bridgeport Place Assisted Living for the past 3 ½ months where she enjoyed talking to other residents and staff. She passed away peacefully while sleeping and with a smile on her face. That’s the way she wanted and hoped for the end to come. We miss her so much and the pain is so great. Mother we love you, you showed us the true meaning of friendship, loyalty, family, helping others, and always held yourself to the highest standards.
