Ann Laubach's Obituary
Ann W. Laubach of Fircrest, WA, passed away peacefully at her home on Nov. 6, 2023, at the age of 89. She was the daughter of John and Sigrid Thingvall, and was born on July 21, 1934, in New England, North Dakota. Born to parents who immigrated, she was the first generation Thingvall born in the United States.
Her family left the farm and moved to Eugene, Oregon, where Ann later graduated from the University of Oregon. She was also a student at Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma where she met her future husband Charles (Chuck) Laubach while he was serving in the Navy. After marrying in 1956 in Eugene, they moved back to Parkland while Chuck earned his degree from PLU. After Chuck graduated, they moved to Seattle and later to Poulsbo where they raised their two children, Brian, and Lori.
Once Chuck retired from civilian service at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and their rental business, they began to snowbird in their RV and later settled in a house in Sun City, Arizona. After Chuck passed away Ann continued to snowbird until it became more difficult to travel and keep up two homes.
Ann was involved in the Bremerton Soroptimists, Bremerton Lions Club, Silverdale Lutheran Church, Stephen’s Ministry, and later St. Marks Lutheran in Tacoma. She volunteered for several years at the Proctor American Cancer Society Shop and donated to causes such as knitting hats for the homeless. Ann worked a variety of accounting jobs in the Bremerton-Silverdale area, and later worked full-time managing the rental business she and Chuck owned in Bremerton.
Ann and Chuck traveled extensively seeing Europe, South Africa, Australia, Japan, China, South Korea, Central America, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Ann is survived by her brother Olaf Thingvall (Rosemary), her son Brian (Melissa) Laubach, her daughter Lori (Mike) Laubach, and three granddaughters Helena (Clayton), Caroline, and Grace. Also mourning her are many brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews. Ann considered many people as part of their family including Sam (Corina) Barker, Ken (Marie) Gransbury and other individuals.
Ann enjoyed reading, knitting, art, qualities, and other creative activities. Her thoughtfulness and love was presented in many ways toward family and friends by her dedication to writing and sending birthday, anniversary and holiday cards to numerous people. Many would say that if they did not get a card from Ann, they were worried.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 1:00PM at Mountain View Funeral Home Aspen Chapel in Lakewood, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Emergency Food Network at https://give.efoodnet.org/fundraisers/ann-laubach-fund or to your favorite charity.
