Ann H. Jacobson's Obituary
Ann Harold Jacobson was born September 29, 1929 as the youngest of three to William and Edith Harold in Walla Walla, Washington. She attended Whitworth College in Spokane earning a degree in Secretarial Sciences and a minor in music. She remained at Whitworth following graduation, working as a secretary for the dean of students.
In 1960, she married Richard Jacobson and settled in Tacoma. As the devoted wife of a minister, she supported her husband as the organizing pastor of Skyline Presbyterian Church. Following her husband’s early death in 1971, she balanced raising two children as a single parent with her part-time work as a secretary at the University of Puget Sound.
Ann had several passions that she enjoyed throughout her life. Her love of skiing spanned from her college days when she was chosen snow queen, into her late 70’s as a member of the Burien Backsliders ski club. Ann also enjoyed singing in community choirs, including the Tacoma Civic Chorus and the Tacoma Repertory Singers. PEO recently honored her 50 years of service which provided many lasting friendships. Later in life, Ann was an avid gardener and found joy in being a part of the neighborhood women’s group.
Ann is survived by her sister Janie Sutherland of Fair Oaks, CA, her children Karen Jacobson (Sid Sidell) of Vail, Colorado and Brian Jacobson (Jennifer) of Des Moines, grandchildren Maggie Rangel (Erik) of Queretaro, Mexico, Haley and Sarah Jacobson, great granddaughters Katherine and Chloe Rangel, and her dear friend Bob Burnham of Seattle with whom she shared a 40 year friendship.
Her example of living a simple and principled life was a great lesson to family and those who knew her. She will forever be remembered by her big bright smile.
Ann passed away peacefully on October 30th. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 4th at 3:30, Skyline Presbyterian Church, 6301 Westgate Blvd, Tacoma. Memorials may be made in Ann’s memory to Palmer Scholars www.palmerscholars.org or Skyline Presbyterian Church, skylinepres.org.
