In my capacity as a Production Supervisor for Shining Ocean, I often interview and hire potential candidates for positions in our facility. The positions posted are not easy jobs nor are they always sought after, but they are an honest days work at a fair wage. Once in awhile I meet a young person that has that look in their eye that tells me, they know what they're looking for in life and they just need a chance to show how they can shine. I felt that way about Zach when he came to us as a temporary hire from a local agency. He was an impressive worker, learning the details of his job quickly and efficiently, consistently looking for better ways to fulfill his tasks and when his job was finished he would always and I mean always, look for ways to help his fellow workers. Those that have worked in a factory, know what a rare quality that can be. He was an exemplary employee, but more than that he was a person of integrity.
I asked him one day out of curiosity, why he wanted to work in our factory and he told me that the hours for the job were perfect for the classes he wanted to take to eventually become an EMT. I felt pretty good about that. Even though it would mean I would eventually lose a good employee, it was gratifying to know that, even in a small way, I could help a young man of his caliber to really be all that he could be.
We only had chance to work with Zach for a short time, just a little over one month, but in that time, he had made so many friends amongst our staff. Everyone loved working with him and knew they could depend on him to carry his weight.
We will all miss him, but if goodness prevails in the life beyond this one, I'm positive Zach is among those and will most certainly continue his journey there.
