Yvonne "Nanny" Sandlin's Obituary
Yvonne Sandlin "Nanny" was the oldest of two daughters born to Allwyn and Eloise Yandon on October 28, 1924 in Grand Forks, North Dakota and passed peacefully on November 1, 2016 in Tacoma, Washington.
She is survived by her children, Tom Krett (Catharine), Bill Krett, Richard Krett and Suzanne Lyon. She was known as "Nanny" to her 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Her greatest achievement was being a mom in a loving, caring and giving way. Being the daughter of a musician, she loved music. As a young girl, she would accompany her father to his playing engagements and listen from behind the curtain or in the wings and being careful not to get caught by the policewoman. In her younger years, she worked as a telephone operator manually connecting calls at the switchboard.
She also worked as an assistant to a cookware saleswoman preparing, serving and cleaning up a "free meal" using the cookware for which she received $1.00. Instead of listening to the saleswoman's pitch, most of the men used to come out to the kitchen to help out and talk to her. As a service member's wife, she packed up and moved the family for 4 different tours of duty. To England, then on to Texas, back to England and then finally to Washington State in 1960.
While living in England, she was Den Mother for the Cub Scouts along with her sons being Scouts themselves.
She enjoyed cooking and baking and always found ways to make the grocery budget stretch in a tasty way. There was always a handmade cake or pie for every birthday occasion. She loved sewing and made her children's clothes until they got too picky and later was happy to "tailor" commercial clothes for a better or "cooler" fit.
She loved animals and always had at one time or another a pet companion that she considered as a family member. She touched the lives and hearts of so many people throughout her life. She was the most loving, caring and beautiful person and will truly be missed by all that knew her and will forever be with us in our hearts.
You have now made the final journey back home and are reunited with your mom, dad, sister, and other loved ones.
