Yon Hui Carter's Obituary
Yon Hui Carter, born March 28, 1954 in Daegu, South Korea passed from her life at home on August 3, 2024 in the arms of her loving husband, both sons and their families. She endured much pain and suffering during the past six years but now found peace with the Lord.
At a youthful age, she was married to Bill who was the love of her life in 1975 and embraced the path that God had set her on. Being an Army wife, she travelled around the world, leaving Korea and living in Germany, Hawaii, coming back to Korea and across the United States until finally settling down in Washington. Many times, she raised the two boys by herself as Bill was deployed overseas or temporary duty, attended months long military school and doing many tactical training away from home and she did a great job. She made many friends, worked various jobs, was part of the church’s choir and taught children Awana and English classes, and earned her Associate’s degree in Theology. Throughout her life, her priorities were simple: to live a life that best served the Lord and to love and support her family.
Yon cherished her sons William and John. She loved spending time with them and guiding them as she watched them grow and mature into the men they are today. She was a vibrant and strong woman and was determined to provide the best life possible for her family. She enjoyed going for long walks, studying the Bible, spending time with family and friends, and had a talent for cooking. A hot cup of coffee made for a great start to her day, and a nice spicy Korean dish was always a joy. Yon also loved to spread joy to others, often baking cookies for friends and family and inviting them for meals they always enjoyed and remembered.
Yon is survived by her husband, Bill, of 49 years who cherished and adored her. Their marriage is one that is a true testament of love as he stood by her side and cared for her, especially in the last few years where chronic health problems began to make daily life require much more assistance, love, and patience. They shared a lifetime together and she would always light up talking about her fond memories together. She is also survived by her sons Lt. Col. William Carter (Lucy and Theodore) and Dr. John Carter (Alice), both of whom she was constantly beaming with pride, as well as her grandson, Theodore Carter, who never failed to brightened her days. With Yon’s passing, we hope not just to remember her, but to feel her presence and guidance throughout our lives.
Yon was preceded in death by her mother, Kui Pun Lee, and her father, Do Hyung Lee. She is also survived by her brother, Choong Gun Lee, and her three sisters: Ok Hui Lee, Sun Hui Lee and Kyung Hui Lee all residing in South Korea.
