While we have been friends of Art and Kris for nearly 30 years, we had the pleasure of meeting Winnie only two or three times. Each time WAS a pleasure, as she always had a smile for everyone, was warm and gracious, and her pride in her children and grandchildren was obvious. Me and Jim enjoyed the visit with your mom last year, wished I could have seen and visited some of you. I have many colored slides of all of you that are available if you want them. My Mother's Day Poem for my Mom. MY Very Special "Worlds Best" Mother.
Our Mother raised us with wisdom, Laughter and love,
she is truly a blessing from up above.
She taught us our manner,"yes thank you and yes please."
She raised all nine of us with grace and ease.
The girls were called Jane, Janie and Lady Jane,
we knew by her tone, she never had to explain.
The boys were special, she called them by name,
but she disciplined them all quite the same.
She raised each on of us with so much understanding.
Her love and compassion can only be called outstanding.
We were taught to be caring, sharing and always say our prayer.
If we missed behaved we were told to "march up the stairs."
Our Mother had one dress in the wash, the only other on on,
bur her children were always clean, fed and gone.
She said proper English was important to listen and learn.
She corrected us all at every turn.
She raised us quite proper and to drink tea.
Our grandmother joined us everyday, with cookies at 3:00.
She earned our respect and enduring love.
Yes, our Mother is truly a blessing from up above.

This is to all my beloved brothers, sisters, and cousins,
I have just the very best memories of our cherished mother.
I am so happy that I have had the opportunity to be in our family with her and you.
One of my favorite memories of our family was when we watched Lawrence Welk and Disney together. We would use our imaginations to see what the shapes of the popcorn looked like. We had a good time laughing together.
Another favorite memory was when Winnie and I would play. She was about 4 years old and I was 7. We would play in the vacant lot next to the house. Mother would call us for lunch, and we would pretend that this nice lady didn't notice that we weren't actually her children, because she had so many. That was when we played "orphans". When she had us do the dishes, we played that we could do that to repay her.
I have so many wonderful thoughts and memories of us all and am so thankful to be in our famiy, and to have had the blessing of having Winifred Muriel Thorpe to grow up and be my mother. She helped me to be who I am.
I would be there for the memorial service, if I could. I am not sure if flying will be safe enough for me, with my blood disorder. I will still honor our mother and I can feel her close to me at times, and I love that feeling.
