Winfield Scott Wilson Jr.'s Obituary
Winfield Scott Wilson Jr., age 86, of Tacoma, passes ways March 14, 2006 from complications of Parkinson’s. Win was born February 2, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA to Winfield Scott Wilson and Elizabeth Dawson Tyson. He spent his yo7urht in Riverton, NJ; and graduated from nearby George School in 1937. Win next entered the Navy where he served in the Pacific on the Pilot Fish Submarine until 1945. He returned to civilian life and graduated in 1949 from the Tuck School of business at Dartmouth College. While at Dartmouth, Win married the love of his life, Cynthia Carpenter (“CC”), June 18, 1947 to whom he has been joyously married for 58 years. Win and CC started their family with the birth of Joy in 1949 followed by Ann (1951), Scott (1956) and Charlie (1967).
Win began his business career in 1949 as a salesman with Kieckhefer, later purchased by Weyerhaeuser Company. His career took the family from Westbrook, ME to Malden, MA, Pennsauken, NJ, Charlotte, NC, and finally to Tacoma WA in 1970 as a National Sales Manager of the corrugated box division, from which he retired in 1981. Along the way, Win developed many close groups if friends while living in Moorestown, NJ; Charlotte, NC; Lakewood, WA and during frequent visits to family in South Strafford VT.
The passions in Win’s life were his family, sports, and frequent travels with CC and family. He especially loved decades of skiing and fold, and he was often seen on the sidelines of youth sports cheering on his grandchildren. He was involved with the Lakewood community in GYRO, the Tacoma Gold and Country Club and was on the board of Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare. Many will miss his engaging sense of humor and his renowned way of gentle teasing.
Win is survived by wife Cynthia (CC), daughters Joy Wilson Oakey (Dick) of Media, PA, Ann Wilson (John Allen) of Tacoma, WA and son W. Scoot Wilson III (Jaci) of Beaverton, OR, his beloved grandchildren Rich Oakey, John Oakey, Johanna Allen, Dawson Allen and Alexandra and Alaina Wilson and brothers James Wilson (Joan) and Richard Wilson of South Strafford, VT and numerous family members across the country. He was preceded in death by son Charles Carpenter Wilson, brother David Wilson and sister Ester Perkins.
