Wilma Slusser's Obituary
Wilma Nadine Slusser, of Spanaway, WA, passed away January 22, 2009 in Tacoma. Wilma was born in Mitchell, SD on Sept. 14, 1923, and was raised and attended schools in South Dakota. She was the daughter of Gertrude & William Witte. She is survived by one son, Monte L. Benn of Tacoma, WA; a daughter, Phyllis S. LeCompte of Tacoma, WA; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Darleen Schertzer of Tacoma, WA; Alva Bullis of Mitchell, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by first husband Phillip M. Benn, second husband LeRoy E. Slusser, son Jack Dethlefsen, and by her mother, father, and three sisters.
Wilma resided in Tacoma, WA since coming here in 1945. She married LeRoy Slusser April 27th, 1968. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Tacoma, WA for many years; the Priscilla Circle of Good Shepherd Church; Maude Piper Orthopedic Guild; and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #228.
Viewing will be 1:00-9:00 PM on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Tacoma, WA. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Mountain View Memorial Park, with memorial services following at 1:00 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 140 E 56th St., Tacoma, WA. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Alan Benn, Phillip Millett Benn, Phillip Frank LeCompte, John Merz, Kevin Gleim, and Shawn Schertzer. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Miller, Jr., Larry Kilen, Rod Davis, Gene Anderson, and Bob Smith. In lieu of flowers, Wilma's wishes were that donations be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Home of the West (send in care of the church), or the Maude Piper Orthopedic Guild.
