Mr. Montgomery was my best friend’s father and my basketball coach in elementary school. He was soft spoken and I never remember him raising his voice at anyone. He had an amazing laugh and smile that lit up the room. He was a man who you respected because he respected you. I was horrible at basketball but he made sure I had equal time on the court and never got frustrated with me. Keith and I would go fishing with him on the military reservation and before we had our driver’s licenses Mr. Montgomery would take us to the Parkland or Lakewood movie theater and pick us up after the movie. Sometimes Keith, Lance, and some of our friends would party before going into the theater but Mr. Montgomery never said anything when he drove us home. Maybe he didn’t know but I think he did. My thoughts are with Miss Montgomery, Nikki, Keith, and the rest of the Montgomery family.
