William Wallace White's Obituary
William Wallace “Bill” White passed away on July 5, 2022, after years of accommodating the challenges of living with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was 80 years old.
Bill was born in New Haven, Connecticut on February 28th, 1942. He spent his youth in Minnesota, graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School in 1960, and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Minnesota. He paused his formal education to complete four years of service in the US Navy, then returned to earn his degree in 1968. Bill began his career as an accountant in Minnesota and relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 1984 to become the controller at Puget Sound Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Bill volunteered regularly with the Tacoma Seafarers’ Center and Praise Covenant Church.
Faith, family, church, and community were important aspects of Bill’s life. After serving in the Navy, Bill met his wife Susan at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis, where they married in 1968. A man of few words, Bill was known for his integrity and ready smile, and his legacy as a committed Christian and loving husband and father. Bill had the honor of caregiving for both his mother Kay and sister Carol in their final years. Bill enjoyed photography, gardening, and camping. He especially loved to tour the country by travel trailer and over his lifetime visited every state in the continental US.
Bill is survived by his wife Susan, his children Cathy (Peter) Siems and David (Suzanna) White, and four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Anneka, Cooper and Colton. Bill is also survived by his brother Bruce (Ann) of Takoma Park, MD. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Katherine White, and sisters Carol and Nancy.
A memorial service will be at 2pm, August 27, at Praise Covenant Church in Tacoma, WA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to Camp of the Cascades in Yelm or the Missions fund at Praise Covenant Church.
