When Bill was a freshman at Clover Park he was assigned to the choir (a rare thing for a freshman) because of his amazing voice. He entered a voice judging event, where I had the pleasure of being his accompanist. He sang "On the Road to Mandalay" before a tough adjudicator, who marked him down for hitting a high note with force. Bill remarked, "YOU TRY HITTING IT SOFTLY"
