My grandpa worked hard to provide us with elaborate Christmases during which we were allowed to select gifts from the Sears Roebuck Christmas Wish Book catalogs. We never failed to receive what we asked for. He also invested a lot of time taking us grandkids for walks to feed the ducks, trips to the park, and to the candy store where he would give us a fist full of change to buy penny candy with. He would also invent fun games, like putt putt golf, for my cousins, brother, and I to play; and, he would reward the winner with a prize that he salvaged from the Garbage and cleaned up for us. When we got on grandpa's last nerve grandma would take us to the kitchen to watch Wheel of Fortune with her on the television set above the refrigerator. She would pour my brother and I a generous portion of Bugals corn snacks on paper towels while we watched her favorite game show.
On approximately February 15th of 2022, I had a very vivid dream around 10:40 that night. I saw my grandpa walking toward a staircase in a bright white room. I ran to catch up with him and told him, "Grandpa! I love you." He turned around and embraced me in a hug. This was out of character for grandpa as he was typically a pat on the back type of hugger. After our embrace, he turned away from me and started walking up the stairs. I intuitively knew that I wasn't allowed to follow him. I had the gut feeling that I needed to call my mom and tell her about the dream that I had about her father, but I was working as a charge nurse at the time with a very hectic schedule. I let myself get distracted with work and never made that call to my mom.
Two days later on the 17th I got a call from my brother notifying me that mom informed him of grandpa's passing. I called my mom to check on her, and she was very distraught. My mom told me that every person has 2 important dates in their lives: they day they are born and the day that they die. She stated that her dad only had one date as they were unable to determine the time of his passing. I told her that I knew the exact date of his death because he came to me in a dream to tell me goodbye.
