William S. Kittrell
Col. U.S. Army Ret.
William S. Kittrell Col. U.S. Army Ret., passed away at Madigan Hospital on Friday, the 10th of April 2009 from complications of an auto accident. Col. Kittrell ("Bill") was born April 25th 1920 in Wallace, Id. He earned a BA degree from Linfield College with continued education at University of Oregon and Stanford University. Bill joined the Army in 1940 and went on to a well decorated 33 year career serving in both WWII and Vietnam. Col Kittrell retired in October 1973 at Ft. Lewis, Wa. After retirement, Bill went to work at the Port of Tacoma where for 21 years he managed the real estate properties for the Port. Bill was very active in the local community in the Kiwanis and the local Chambers of Commerce for Lakewood and Tacoma. Bill served on numerous civic committees including the Regional Area Mobility Program, Military Affairs and Lakewood Citizens Transportation Committee. He is survived by Eve, his wife of 49 years; three sons Bill, Chester (Jennette) and Guy; two daughters Susan (Col. Joe Gill) and Trudy and seven grandchildren; Kevin, Kurtis, Rachel, Ryan, Kylee, Blake and Tara. He is also survived by his sister Melcena Brixey. Memorial Service will be held at 1200 on 16 April at the Mt. View Funeral Home. Internment will be on Friday at 0915 in the Tahoma National Cemetery. A reception will be held after the Memorial Service on Thursday.
