How pleasant he was. He loved to take photos. He did take one of me as well. His wife was just as nice as he was.
I interviewed "Howie" regularly as a Tacoma News reporter some 30 years ago. I found him to be a genial, courteous and accommodating gentleman who understood and supported the role of the press, at the time. He was a representative fitting of the Weyerhaeuser name and I am saddened to belatedly learn of his passing. May he rest in peace.

To Howie's family and close friends
Howie and Magnus and I were roommates at Harvard during my first year ( I was married during my second year). Every time we gave a party which was quite often, Howie brought a fresh salmon delivered from home and arranged just about everything else.
Howie was always looking for ways to help other people. His DNA was comparable to a Filipino nurse. He was consistently there for us and anyone else who needed help. He was always thinking ahead and therefore made our lives much more enjoyable despite a heavy study workload.
Magnus was Swedish and had the habit of drinking beer before brushing his teeth in the morning. Howie and I thought this was a bit strange but of course we were very supportive and even participated once in a while.
Our weekly theme papers were always due on Saturday night at 9PM and we were never early , so very seldom did any of us have a date. After nine Howie always knew where to go and it was always fun. He was a good leader and delightful to be around. He was the reliable, affable and unflappable person everyone would like to have as a friend. Magnus and I were very lucky to have been so close to him .
My deepest condolences to the family he loved so very much.

It was such a pleasure working with Howie at Weyerhaeuser Company. It seemed he was always going about 100 mph, always in the middle of the most exciting projects and activities. Most of us marveled at his resourceful and creative talents. Above all, I remember his kindness and caring for others. May he rest in peace.

I had the privilege of knowing Howie from the downtown YMCA. He and Rip would be sitting putting their socks on after doing water aerobics or later on Howie and "the girls" would come driving up the street while I was huffing and puffing up one of the hills. Howie would have the big blue Buick pull over and we would talk for a bit. I will miss Howie and his big blue Buick stopping in the middle of the street for a chat. I am grateful for his kindness and friendship....he will be missed.

Knowing Howie was always a pleasure. He was always interested in the work you were doing at the big W and he treated everybody with friendliness.

I remember with fondness Howie and my time on the American Lake Improvement Club Board of Directors. Howie was an industrious and forthright member and certainly
loved American Lake and the surroundings.
My condolences to the family.
