Dear Joan,
I am so saddened to find out that Bill passed on to his Heavenly Home last year. I’m not sad for him! He’s exactly where our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, promised that he would be! Enjoy those golden streets, my friend, and enjoy the sky today with no smog or turpenid mist! You were such an enthusiastic environmentalist!
I met Bill during Summer Quarter of my junior year at UW. We spent some time canoe paddling and some mountain hiking that year. Bill was a great help with the girl I was care-taking who was in a wheelchair. His assistance was integral when he allowed Winnie the joy of taking a ferry trip to Victoria. We couldn’t have gone without him and Winnie’s mother was forever grateful. There were no ADA standards back then!
I just wanted you to know how delighted I am that Bill met Jesus. He was not much interested in Spiritual things back when I knew him. I look forward to seeing him in Heaven.
Blessings on you, Joan, as you navigate life without Bill. He is a wonderful friend and a special human being. You got a good one!

I served with Bill as a Navy officer in Iceland.
He and I double dated two American school teachers with the dependent education program of the Department of Defense. It was my first date with a woman who I now share 54 years of happy marriage, including two daughters. For me it was a wonderful time. My experience and memories of Bill at that time mirror the story shared in his obituary.

Bill, like Chuck and Helen, will always be remembered as a friendly, gracious, intelligent businessman who’s love for Joan, Peter and Elizabeth and their families propelled him to be successful in the milling business. It was our privilege to know him.
