William M. Sommerville,'s Obituary
William MacLean Sommerville, Jr., passed away suddenly, doing what he enjoyed most, golfing.He is survived by his parents William and Helen Sommerville, of Tacoma; children Miles Sommerville and Heather Sommerville of Tacoma; brothers Greg (Fran) Sommerville of Kent and Dave (Marilyn) Sommerville of Olympia; grandchildren Annie (Eddie), Chris, Curtis and Chloe; great grandchildren Margarita and Hector; nephews Matthew, Chris, David, and Sam. He was preceded in death by his special friend, Cheryl. Our dad grew up in Tacoma where he attended Franklin Elementary School, Jason Lee Jr. High, and Stadium High School, graduating in 1961. After attending Olympic Jr. College and Central Washington he went on to work for Puget Sound National Bank. Later he moved to Seattle where he spent 11 years enjoying life, taking classes at the University of Washington, working for Triple A Auto and spending time with many wonderful friends he made. After retiring in 1986 he moved back to Tacoma briefly and then settled in Lakewood where he was a volunteer grounds keeper for the American Lake Veterans golf course.Papa Bill, as we knew him, was a very unique individual. He was a talented artist, lover of music, and avid golfer and the best story teller I knew. He will be greatly missed.A reception to celebrate Bills life will be held Friday, September 20, 2002 from 1:30 Â- 4:00 PM in the Mountain View Celebration of Life Center.
