William Ide's Obituary
William John Ide “Bill” passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 14, 2025. Bill was born in Sioux City, Iowa on October 15, 1929, to parents John and Esther née Mathers Ide. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1947 where he was selected as Captain of the All-City Basketball Team. Bill joined the army immediately after high school and served in General MacArther’s Headquarters in Japan. He was later stationed in Korea from 1950-1951. After Korea, Bill attended Morningside College where got his teaching degree and played basketball.
Bill married Anita R. Cole in 1954, and they lived in Knoxville, Iowa where he taught high school. He and his young family moved to University Place, Washington in 1959 where he started his career in the nursing home business. Bill owned and operated several nursing care facilities across Washington and built a large facility in Tacoma dedicated and named after his mother, Esther Rose. He retired in 1980.
Bill was happiest watching sports, playing poker and gin rummy.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Anita, his sister Patricia Martonik, brothers Raymond Ide and James Ide. He is survived by his five children, Linda Ide, Gina Marble (David), William Ide Jr “Sam”, Lisa Hanson (Gary) and Monica Hirano, his seven grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, Nathan, Nicholas Ide, Jessica, Hayley, Matthew Hanson and 2 great grandchildren, Noah and Journey.
Proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Veteran, hunter, horse racing owner/enthusiast, gardener, golfer, soft ball/handball player, bowling, and all-around sports lover, especially football. You will truly be missed. We will never forget you or to “Smile, it doesn’t cost anything”.
