I came to know Bill through BFMA, as a fellow member of the Northwest chapter and working with him on the chapter's board. I always admired his dedication to the chapter, driving from Olympia to Seattle for the meetings, working on education and always being willing to help get things done. Over the years I learned about him growing up on the farm, his wife Pat, his birds and of course his involvement in car racing. It was obvious he loved them all. After he retired, I learned he had taken up painting and was very impressed with his skill when he sent me a picture of one of his paintings. He was a man of many talents.
Bill was a kind man. The only pain he ever caused was with some of his corny jokes or bad puns :-). He loved to lay them on you just to see your reaction.
Bill was a good friend and I was very sad to hear his life was cut short when he had so many interests and so much to live for. He will be dearly missed. My condolences to Pat and all of his family.

I worked for Bill at L&I for the better part of 9 years. Every day with him was a fun day. After a 30 mile drive on I-5 every morning, Bill always had a story, a racing tidbit, or something that one of his birds said. He did it all in racing, from building his own car, to maintaining them to driving. He was always eager to share his talents on forms, and was instrumental in getting study groups going for our professional certification. I was fortunate to have his help when going for my CFC. A true gentleman that will be missed. My sincerest condolences to Pat.

I served on the BFMA board of directors with Bill for several years - we attended many Symposiums, Regional conferences and board meetings together. He was always there to serve in whatever capacity we needed, and he'd do anything for you. He was passionate about forms and was a wealth of information on the subject! I always thought of him during the Indy 500, as he loved racing and was just as passionate about it as he was forms - maybe more! He was a truly nice guy, a real gentleman - and will be missed.. My deepest sympathy to Pat and his entire family.

We met Bill and Pat in Olympia somewhere around 1969, give or take, when we became active with South Sound Race & Rallye sports car club. Bill was a character! He was a goldmine of information regarding historic and contemporary racing. And he seemed to know almost everybody involved in the sport, whether they were from Eastern Washington, Western Washington and Canada, or the Portland area. We enjoyed bumping into him throughout the years at the various tracks here in the Northwest. He clocked-out way too early, but we were lucky to have him as long as we did. Happy trails, Bill.

Early on when I met Bill, we both served on the BFMA Board of Directors. Once Bill learned that I was from Indianapolis, Indiana, the conversations started about racing! I didn't have the heart to tell Bill that even though I was born and raised in Indianapolis, I didn't really follow the drivers at the Indy 500. I did, however, pay a little more attention to the race activity each year after I met Bill. And, I tried to send Bill a calendar that showcased the drivers when I could get them. Bill was definitely 1 of a kind, and was very passionate about everything he was involved in. I met Bill through BFMA. He was a genial, caring, comfortable and warm person. He was full of stories and could bend your ear forever about forms and always with a lesson as a part of the story. He kept me up on his racing and I sent him a pix of a BMW racer we saw in Berlin last year. He told me about his mother's health and what a wonderful and inspiring person she is. Bill was devastated when his sister Judy died this spring, and we shared many emails about that. My inbox is going to be a little less full from now on. I will really miss those messages and the wonderful man behind them. My condolences to Pat, his mother and the family.

Bill was the first person I met at my first BFMA Symposium and he gave me a big hug and told me a wacky joke. I said, "Who knew FORMS people had so much fun?" After that, he never failed to have a big smile, a wink, a pun, or some other nonsense to lighten our hearts while he passed on his wealth of knowledge to us with grace and generosity. I'm so sad to hear that he is no longer with us. I'm so glad to have had the chance to know him. My condolences to Patty and his family. He will be so missed.

Bill had a zest for life, a cheeky sense of humour and a love of people that will be sorely missed. I can't believe he has passed, but take solace in the fact that he lived a full life. My heart goes out to his wife, Patty.

I met Bill through BFMA. He is the one who recruited me to the BFMA board. I was so flattered; I would not have thought of doing such on my own. He was the VP of programs at the time. I was director of education, and Robin Miller was director of symposium operations. Robin and I were both new to the board. Together we were the program council and we bonded then.

Bill was an excellent mentor to me. He encouraged me in my role, and seemed to thrive on having someone to teach. He also encouraged me to be a presenter. One thing leads to another.

Bill was always there at Symposium and sometimes at regional events as well. You could count on him being friendly, welcoming new people (and turning them into friends) and sharing stories. Many attended one of his classes during their first event. He also contributed to his professional field by serving on both the BFMA board and the certification board. He aimed to help and never stopped caring.

Bill and I stayed friends over the years. I am so tickled that he invited me to visit him during a race last summer at PIR (Portland International Raceway). I got to see the back forty and meet some of his friends there.

I’ve missed Bill ever since I heard the news about the accident. I’ll not forget his friendly and kind spirit.
