William Elia Nelson,'s Obituary
William E. Nelson Sr. passed away November 5, 2007. Bill was born in Roslyn, WA August 5, 1927 to "Bat" and Pauline Nelson-Smith. Bill graduated from Cle Elum H.S. in 1945. Upon graduation, Bill enlisted in the Merchant Marines, then serving in the Navy during the Korean conflict. Returning from the service, Bill began working for the NP Railroad while attending and graduating from Pacific Luthern. Bill worked for the Tacoma School District serving as a teacher and administrator for over 30 years. Bill was active in the community dedicating years to the Tacoma Boy's Club and Camp, the Masonic Lodge, and the Daffodilians. While involved with Masonic organizations, Bill was instrumental in developing the College of Knowledge program which continues today. Bill's strong work ethic was derived from working the many coal mines of Roslyn at an early age. He always enjoyed making a difference in young people's lives. He is survived by his wife Anne of 59 years, son Bill(Linda)of Redmond. Daughter Paula(Pete) of Portland and 5 grandchildren-Lauren, Kathryn, Alex Nelson- Marinna and Hagen Radloff.Viewing at Mountain View Friday 11/9, services 11/10 at 1pm.
