William C. Dowd, Jr.
William C. Dowd, longtime resident of Spanaway, passed away quietly at home on Friday, November 4, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
William was a beloved husband of Diane, father to Alexa Rose and Ashley Renee, of the home. He was also the father of Kenneth (Jessica), Stewart (Laura), and Stephen (Jen) of Painesville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dowd and Ruth Hurl. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Sheryl Gustafson of Avon Park, Florida; Ruth Kearney of Panama, New York; and Kim Smith of Jamestown, New York. William was also grandfather to 8, great-grandfather of 1, and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews-¦also friend of many.
William served proudly in the United States Army for 23 years, and upon retirement was employed by McDonald's Corporation and Red Wind Casino. William spent over 10 years as a foster parent to over 75 children in need. William and Diane had been named as the First Family of Merit on Fort Lewis, Washington, and he was a proud PTA volunteer at Centennial Elementary School and was referred to as the Popcorn Dad.
William's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Franciscan Hospice for the care and support they received during William's illness.
Visitation will be held from 4-8:00 PM on Thursday, November 10, and from 8:00AM-2:00 PM on Friday, November 11, with graveside services at 2:30 PM on Friday, November 11 in Mountain View Memorial Park.
