Wilhelmine E. Butson's Obituary
Wilhelmine E. Butson
Jan. 24, 1923 - Sept. 9, 2012
Wilhelmine (Minnie) Butson (Mom, Oma, Big Oma) passed away Sept. 9, 2012 at age 89.
Minnie came to the U.S. as a Dutch war bride. She married Jack Butson on July 7, 1945 in Heerlen, Holland. She took pride in the fact that she made her wedding dress out of a silk parachute, a dress she loaned to four other war brides. Together Minnie and Jack had four children.
The family spent many of its early years living overseas as Jack was stationed in Germany, Panama and Austria. Minnie learned English, became a citizen in 1952 and worked as a seamstress. The family settled in Lakewood following Jack's retirement from the Army.
Minnie was preceded in death by Jack in 1985. She is survived by her children: Jack (Lisa) Butson, Emmy Waterson, Bernice (Steve) Hodge and Debbie (Dave) Hansen. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two brothers, Herman (Joanne) Witjes of Niagra Falls, N.Y. and Ernst (Mia) Witjes of Heerlen, Holland.
The family thanks the staffs at Meridian Hills in Puyallup and Loving Family Home Care in Tacoma for their kind and compassionate care.
It was Minnie's wish that no service be held.
Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
