Bill and I started at Milgard within a few months of each other in 1988. He was always quick to smile and offer to help in any way - usually in a very creative and inventive way and always with a bond of friendship. In time, I became Bill's boss though I was really a marketing guy and manager type - never an engineer. He helped me through complex design, testing and code issues. I marveled at him over my 10 years at Milgard and another 10 years working with the window association. He never stopped helping or smiling and made many lasting contributions to Milgard and the whole industry. His biggest contribution to me was to observe for 20 years and learn from his friendly and open approach to all people. Bill did real good.

Unfortunately, I never really got to know Bill at that well, but I know, based on how dearly Sandy, her daughters and the grandchildren loved him, he had to be nothing less than an absolutely amazing person! To Sandy & Bill’s Family,

In honor of Bill’s memory I have donated to the Gig Harbor History Museum. I’ve requested my donation to be used in the area of restoring the fishing vessel Shenandoah. From reading Bill’s life story of building with his hands and “his willingness to be a father figure to anyone who needed it” it was easy to envision the joy that Bill would appreciate of children learning and watching the re-build of the Shenandoah. As a new neighbor of Bill & Sandy’s I will miss his kind smile. I witnessed his daily contributions to make our small neighborhood beautiful. I am so sorry for your loss.

Uncle Bill, I will always remember how you welcomed me to the NorthWest in 1990. You have been a dear friend ever since. The cars have gotten a little fastest since you built your little orange buggie! Thank you for so many wonderful memories, including our trip to watch the IRL race in Los Angeles.

Wow! My favorite memories of Bill are going to him with a problem or an idea (how do I attach a mantle to my stacked stone fireplace) and then Bill would start his wheels rolling in his head, and two days later I had a mantle that he had lovingly made!!! Next, I will never forget traipsing over in my pjs and boots in the snow to play cards or do a puzzle! Bill would explain to me patiently why I didn't need to shuffle the cards because of the law of averages (or something....) :) We had many a laugh over that one! He was always out in the yard moving a plant or digging one up or figuring out how to get the sprinklers to work better. He was quiet, always doing something for someone without asking for thanks - he was so happy doing stuff for other people. I remember the attack squirrels on the porch, and he would just move me farther away from the edge of the deck, as if that made any difference! :) Margaritas at Bill and Sandy's and sitting on the deck were some of my most priceless memories. I will miss Bill so much. I will let Frank share his own memories of their many escapades, driving cars, making things, fixing our deck, etc. We are so sad for all of Bill's family, but reading the beautiful obituary makes me think his memory will never fade because there are many "BIll" stories that we will always share!
