Wilburt Oscar Stayman's Obituary
Wilburt Oscar Stayman was born in York County, West Manchester, Pennsylvania on May 24, 1924 to Adam and Hazel Stayman. He had his first job around the age of 11 making socks to help support his family during the Great Depression. Wilburt was a tall, strapping man with bright red hair; given the nickname “Red”. He entered the Army Air Core (later to become the United States Air Force) in 1943 and would ultimately serve a total of 24 years while being stationed all around the world to include; the South Pacific, Republic of Korea, Vietnam and England. While stationed in England, he met the love of his life, Dora Maria Rogers, at a local night club. They were married in Manchester, England on November 26, 1955 and stayed married for 42 wonderful years until Dora’s departure. Upon being stationed stateside, they adopted two beautiful children; David Michael and Louann Maria.
Wilburt always believed in hard work, loved taking care of his family and enjoyed a stiff drink once in a while. After retiring from the Air Force in 1973, he moved his family to Lakewood, WA where he worked at the McChord Air Force Base Commissary as a bagger for over 30 years, becoming the #3 bagger. Wilburt enjoyed his time relaxing by watching the Mariners in the spring and the Seahawks in the fall; all while being with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dora, children David and Louann.
He will be deeply missed by his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
