Dear Karen and Marilyn and other family members, July 7/13
Just found that your dear father had died in May from the Mountain View Web page Ginger and I were on a trip from May.6-29th ....sorry to have missed Ed's service ... We both are sad but know of his faith In the Lord and that death for Ed is a transition to Heaven. Ed was such a encouragement and inspiration to me.....spent some really good times with him in his home. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all....

Saddened to hear of Ed's passing. Want to share 2 stories. The first having to do with me as a newly minted commercial pilot flying a photo mission with Ed. Paul Becker a former Navy pilot was the pilot and I was copilot. We were to shoot aerial photos of the LaGrande canyon for Tacoma City Light. Ed opened the door of our Cessna, leaned out and asked me to hold on to his belt. Great shots I might add. The other had to do with Ed's running the Photo & Reproduction for TPU. We engineers were frequently down asking the shop to run copies of our drawings. The customer service was great. And this was before customer service was the buzz word it is today. A great employee for a great organization! Ted Coates, CEO/Director of Utilities Retired.

From my Facebook page: My former co-worker, mentor, supervisor and friend Wilbur"Ed" Smith passed away to-day, he was a WWII vet, a Photographer on the Big-E(USS Enterprise) and was in all the major battles, he flew as a dive-Bomber Gunner, reconnaissance Photographer, as well as ships battle photographer, and 29 years as a City of Tacoma Photographer, I started with the Public Utilities Photo lab in 1973, Ed showed me the ropes and became like a second Dad to me, he will be missed by all that knew him, as I will, god bless and rest in peace my friend.
