Wendy Weyerhaeuser's Obituary
Wendy Wagner Weyerhaeuser September 13, 1927 - September 11, 2014 We remember a wife and mother who naturally, instinctively transmitted her love of nature, her adventuresome spirit, and her goodwill to all. She was a woman beyond words. She shared with us her sense of humor, her love of gardening and cooking and welcoming others into her home and life. She effortlessly wove fun and joy into everything she did in life. She treated all people with respect and a personal interest in who they were. She loved us unconditionally and her lessons of respect and even more importantly trust will stay with us forever. We know that for all the individuals who were touched by her, this will be a tremendous loss. Up until the very end of her struggle against formidable physical problems, she continued to be able to think of others and care about how they were feeling. She was a partner in one of the most enduring, productive, inspirational marriages of all time. Wendy and George celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on July 10th, with Wendy using her dwindling energies to choose flowers, which she arranged beautifully for George. Wendy was the daughter of Eulalie and Corydon Wagner. She grew up in downtown Tacoma and on Gravelly Lake. She attended Annie Wright Seminary, The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and Finch College in New York City. During their marriage George and Wendy lived in Hamden, CT, Longview, WA and Eugene, OR, before moving to Tacoma in March 1957. Wendy is survived by her brother, Corydon Wagner, and his wife Judy; her sister, Merrill Wagner Ryman and her husband Robert Ryman. One of the hardest events of her life was when her beloved son, George, died on April 14, 2013. Again deep grieving came this summer with the passing of her grandson, Karl Griggs, on July 14th. She is loved and mourned by her surviving children Leilee Weyerhaeuser, Kathy McGoldrick, Susan Messina, Phyllis and Mark Griggs, David and Sarah Weyerhaeuser, and Merrill Weyerhaeuser and Patrick Welly. They are joined in grief by Hal Reiter and Michael Messina. She is also mourned by her surviving fifteen grandchildren, and their spouses: Aaron, Christina, Kyle, Hayley and Cody Reiter; Walker, Allison, Corydon and Kayla Weyerhaeuser; Megan and Kyle Redfield, Alyssa and Jessica Messina; Nataliya and Naomi Griggs; Kaylee, Jake, and Natalie Weyerhaeuser; Sierra and Jasper Welly. The most recent joys in her life are her four great-grandchildren: Evianna and Noah Reiter, Elin Redfield, and Johanna Weyerhaeuser. No one will miss her more or treasure the memories of her life more than her lifelong mate and love, George Weyerhaeuser. The family would like to thank numerous healthcare professionals for their compassionate care and so many others for their outpouring of love and support. A memorial will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Lakewold Gardens, the Corydon G. Wagner Fund for Nursing Education at Multicare Health Foundation or the Tacoma Community Foundation.
