Wayne Vernon, loving husband, dad and grandpa passed away on February 6, 2019 at his home at Weatherly Inn in Tacoma, Washington. He was 86. He lived in Gig Harbor for 20+ years prior to that. He was born in Des Moines, IA on Marc Read Obituary
I am Mary's sister Betty and Wayne's sis-in-law. My very first memory of Wayne was when Mary brought him to our farm. He wanted to wash his car down by the barn and 2 little girls in farm dresses and barefoot came to watch.They were very shy and just stared without a word. Our father died as age 61 when I was a senor and Wayne being the only male in our family took over to help all of us. He helped me decide on a career for college in the medical field and he also taught me how to drive.He was pretty white knuckled when I stripped the gears on his 57 Chevy as he was very fond of keeping his cars in pristine shape. Bu we made it through the lessons.He would share with us his Navy stories and told me he was offered a big promotion to stay his 20 years and looking back he thought he made a mistake by not taking up the offer. He was a great brother-in-law and I know he is in a Great place now. Thankyou for honoring him and celebrating his life. my love for him Betty Ellenberger.
