Wayne. We knew Wayne from baseball. He patiently sat next to use for 5 years watching both of my children grow from birth. I am sad he will not get to see how they have grown over the winter. I'm sure on behalf of the entire Lakewood City Council, please accept our condolences. I didn't know Wayne as the floral artist; I knew him as a board member of the lakewood Historical Society. During difficult times, he helped drive us to practical actions that led to such accomplishments as the opening of the museum in the Colonial Center. The man cared passionately about Lakewood history and the importance of sharing it. My deepest sympathy at the passing of our dear friend, Wayne. I became friends with Wayne and learned so much from his floral designs when we worked together as designers at Merlin's Flowers in Oregon, Illinois 1994 and 1995. I can hear him say ..."it is not how many flowers in an arrangement, it is how they are used !" He was right! We stayed in touch after he moved back to Tacoma and we would have a grand reunion lunch or dinner out when he came back to Illinois to visit. I always looked forward to his Christmas letter and the beautiful photos of his classy condo featuring his incredible Santa collection. I had lunch with Wayne when he was here for his Shullsburg High School class reunion just two months ago. He always wanted to hear about our dairy farm and how the crops were coming along. Wayne was a dear soul and taught volumes by living his life well and always being interested in new experiences. I shall miss him. I have not had the privilage of meeting Waynes family from Illinois, but I want you to know what a big part of our lives he was and always will be. He was very opinionated, I think that was what we loved about him, but also a very caring and kind man. I am proud to be able to say he was a dear friend for 40 years. He will be missed by me and my family. Work will, unfortunatly, keep me from attending the funeral but you all will be in my heart and prayers.
