Wayne Lincoln LaChapelle's Obituary
Wayne Lincoln LaChapelle was born on February 12, 1923 in Tacoma, WA, to Wilfred LaChapelle and Isabelle (Rider) LaChapelle and passed away in Puyallup on February 20, 2019 at the age of 96.
He was a lifelong resident of the Tacoma area, attending McKinley Elementary, Sheridan Elementary and Lincoln High School.
Following graduation, he proudly served in the US Coast Guard, stationed at Cape Mendocino in Northern California from 1942 to 1945.
After his service, he returned to Tacoma and began his lifelong career as a sheet metal worker for P&C Heating and Coovert and Jensen. He eventually became a small business owner, purchasing Coovert and Jensen, which he owned until his retirement in 1985.
In 1961 he married his lifelong love, Patricia Mansfield (Pietila).
He was passionate about all things boating and enjoyed limited hydroplane racing as a member of the APBA (American Power Boat Assn.) Later in life he spent many hours outboard racing and collecting and tinkering with antique outboard motors. He also spent countless days cruising aboard his many boats in Puget Sound waters. During his cruising years, he enjoyed volunteering as a member and Commodore of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Tacoma as well as being an active member of Carling Yacht Club from 1971 until his passing. He also volunteered his time at the LeMay Museum at Marymount.
He is survived by longtime life partner Patricia Mansfield, daughters Debbie LaChapelle, Connie Nichols (Dan), Melisa Shuster (Duane), son Mark Livingston, grandchildren Miranda Swanson (Tyson), Danae deKruyf (Andy), Timothy Shuster, Mark Mobley, Jakob Shuster, Mikayla Shuster, 5 great-grandchildren and step-sisters Jean Roberts and Mary Law.
He was preceded in death by sister Betty Stowell and daughter Linda Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13th from 2pm to 6pm at the Puyallup Eagles, Aerie #2308, 202 5th Street NW, Puyallup, WA 98371. Please bring a potluck dish and your special memories of good times with Wayne to share. No-host bar and beverages available.
