Warren Cummins Gonnason's Obituary
Age 82, died peacefully on January 18, 2007 following a brief illness. Born on April 13, 1925 in Seattle. Warren grew up on a farm in Carnation with his three brothers, John, Walter, Leonard, and two sisters, Virginia and Eleanor. He attended Tolt High School and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in civil engineering. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War where he was honored with the Bronze Star for Heroism and retired as a Colonel. He was the first Public Works Director for Marin County, CA, then relocated to Seattle where he was King County Engineer. He was also State Commissioner of Highways for Alaska, Public Works Director for the City of Renton, and later entered private consulting. Warren retired to Anderson Island, WA where he enjoyed golfing, gardening, and travel. Warren was passionate about his golf game and his seven handicap, and was a member of the Inglewood, Fairwood, and Rivera Golf Clubs.Warren is survived by his wife, Virginia, former wife, Joan, daughters Meryl, Durlyn, Laurie (deceased), sons Kim, Gary and Christopher, stepdaughters Cindy, Marjorie, stepson Gregory, and many grandchildren.Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 23rd at the Valley Chapel, Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sierra Club and The Nature Conservancy.
