Walter S. Riley's Obituary
Born on November 12th, 1932, in Lima, Ohio, Walter's journey was one of determination, laughter, and love.
From his early days working on a farm in Elida, Ohio, Walter embodied the motto he lived by: "Get to work." His four years in the Navy took him across seas, but it was his move to Tacoma, Washington, that began a new chapter. There, he founded Shamrock Construction, pouring his heart into underground instruction, and leaving behind a legacy.
Walter's passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. He found joy on the golf course, solace in hunting and fishing, and excitement in traveling to warm places—ever the snowbird chasing the sun. Proud of his Irish heritage, his stories were filled with humor, and his laughter was infectious.
He was a hard-loving, mind-over-matter person, a man who worked hard and lived fully. His key traits— Determined, Responsible, Hardworking, Resilient, Loyal—are the qualities we've come to cherish and strive to emulate.
Walter is reunited with his beloved wife, Yvonne M. Riley, and his dear daughter, Dianna L. Riley, both of whom preceded him in passing. He leaves behind his son Rick Riley, his daughter-in-law Jeanne Adair, his grandchildren Rachel Harris (Clint), Melissa Riley, Jessica Herting, Shannon Masters, and Michele Masters, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
As we remember Walter, we're reminded of the warmth he brought into our lives—the shared moments of golf swings, fishing tales, and travels under the sun. His spirit lives on in the memories we hold and the love that binds us.
His journey may have concluded in Puyallup, Washington, on March 19th, 2025, but the impact of his life endures. We honor him by embracing the laughter, the hard work, and the kindness he showed us every day.
