Walter Henry McCarren's Obituary
Walter Henry McCarren of Yelm, Washington died peacefully in his home on January 4, 2008. One of seven children of Jim and Alice McCarren, Walter was born February 25, 1922 on the family farm in Becker County, Minnesota.He attended local schools through the twelfth grade and in 1942 joined the United States Navy. Walter attended basic training in New London, CT and patrolled the Pacific aboard the submarine, USS Atule, during World War II. Following the War, Walt continued to proudly his country until his retirement from active duty in 1962 in Bemidji, Minnesota. For the next several years, he was employed in the Hibbing/Grand Rapids, Minnesota area until 1984 when he made his final move to Yelm, Washington where he resided beside his dear brother, Lawrence. While Walter was a private man, he also immensely enjoyed having his family and friends around him. His home was always open to all and he was a good friend to many. Walt is remembered as a kind, trusting, non-judgmental man; a man who was a great listener and who had a wonderful, dry sense of humor.Preceeding him in death are his mother, father, two brothers (Lawrence and Bob) and two sisters (Esther and Betty). He is survived by one son (Ed), three grandchildren (Dorothy, Bob and Jeff) and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are one brother (Don), one sister (Delores) and numerous nieces and nephews.
