I am so sorry to hear this news. I had only meant Wally a couple of times in my life, but I Dad considered him a brother (they were actually step-brothers for a time when his father was married to my grandmother). They went to high school together and the times I met Wally were when he came to visit my grandmother and father and then later, just my father.
My mother also had Alzheimer's, so I have an inkling of how difficult this latter part must have been for all of you who cared for him.
I'm sharing a photo I found in the many I'm trying to archive from both my grandmother and my father's extensive collection. I'm sure there are others of Wally, but my time to work on this is limited these days.
Please accept my sincere condolences. I am not looking forward to sharing this news with my father and his sisters.
I've also included a photo of my father, Pat at the time he and Wally would have been "steps" and what I believe to be a photo of Wally's Dad, Cecil, with my grandmother, Ann, and my cousin, Alan.
I pray God will grant you peace and that your memories will be comforting.

Walt and Mindy are back together again. Sad and comforting at the same time. Met them through the Professional Loadmasters Association (PLA) that Walt was one of the first members and was the national secretary for the early years.
Remember one PLA picnic we were planning and someone asked about a pop-up shade shelter. Walt replied he has one, it came from the skies during a storm. His neighbors never had one, so he really doesn't know where it came from. It did not come with the bag, he added.
Walt was also very good at getting people to help. He attributed it to his time in sales. When he was working on a person you could sit back and watch with amazement. Learned early to say no quickly and see if it stuck.
At the McChord AFB GYM it was known, not accept a Walt invitation to play basketball as "horse" was one of his favorites. Playing basketball with him resulted in the person getting the ball to toss back too him as he did not miss many shots. I was funny to see him hook a young airman into playing. I would look over and just laugh to myself as that airman has no idea what trap he just walked into.

Wally’s smile makes you want to smile. He had such a wonderful disposition and sense of humor, and his photo is case in point — you can actually see his sense of humor lurking there behind his smile and you want to smile! Whenever I was at Wally and his wife Mindy’s home, they always made me feel sincerely welcome and genuinely interested in me and in what was happening in my life. That kind of warmth and attentiveness to others is not common. Wally was resilient and I admire that so much. Life took him through many chapters, challenges, and changes, yet he continued moving forward with strength, humor, and grace. I will always remember Wally for his being kind and genuinely interested in others.

I got to know Wally a bit through my time leading worship services at his memory care. Most weeks for the last year, he would sit right up near me and sing along with the old hymns. Even though he was bearing the burden of this devastating disease, he would smile, make a little joke, and put me at ease. He will be missed at FTJ.

I spent a lot of time with my uncle when I was in the United States, and he always wanted to please me; he was a sweet person. I cherish those good memories, and also those of my Aunt Mindy.
