Wallace Henry Kennedy, Jr.'s Obituary
Wally was the son of Dr. Wallace H. Kennedy Sr. and Mabel G. (Lang) Kennedy. He has three brothers, Robert, Lorne, and William, and one sister, Marilyn. In the early years, the family resided in Seattle on Queen Ann Hill, then moved to the eastside of Tacoma where Wally attended McKinley grade school, Gault middle school and Lincoln High school. Wally served honorably in the Army in World War II. He was trained as a rifleman and was a member of the 102nd Infantry Division, serving in combat operations in Germany, was assigned to Rifle Company, fired a rifle at enemy positions and personnel, and assisted in attacking, capturing, and holding enemy positions. He was wounded in Germany. Wally was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Victory medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). Wally enjoyed writing short stories, composing music, singing, playing the organ, and painting. He was always excited to share his completed works with family and friends. He also enjoyed ice skating, and when his nieces and nephews were young, he would pile them all into the car and take them to the ice skating rink. He was always looking for new ways of doing things, and in fact came up with some creative ideas for unique inventions. He had an active mind and shared his ideas with anyone who would listen. He retired from Madigan Hospital. Wally moved back to his old neighborhood in Tacoma from Puyallup and found his church family at Eastside Christian Church. He had an unshakable faith in life everlasting. We will hold Wally's memory close to our hearts until we all meet again. He was a good son, brother, uncle, and friend. Special thanks to St. Joseph Medical Center and Franciscan Hospice for his care in these last weeks, and to his niece, Janey. Donations may be made to the Tacoma Rescue Mission, PO Box 1912, Tacoma, WA 98404-1912. Services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the Mountain View Garden Chapel.
