Virgil June Bailey's Obituary
Virgil June Ellingston Bailey, 85, a Tacoma resident for 60 years, passed away January 26, 2004. She is survived by husband O. Keith; son Michael, of Tacoma; daughter Miriam and husband William A. Durham, of Gig Harbor; sisters: Eunice Christensen (Lloyd), Bernice Nelson (Robert), and Avis Hopkey, all of Belmond, IA; and brothers: Leo Ellingston (Opal), and Ray Ellingston (Rebecca), also of Belmond, IA. She is predeceased by sister Maxine Michelson and husband Elmer.Born in 1918 in Belmond, IA, to parents Elling and Nettie Ellingston. She was baptized as an infant, and confirmed as a youth in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Belmond. She attended St. Olaf until her marriage. Virgil taught at Country School No. 5, and on October 29, 1939 married O. Keith Bailey in Belmond. On October 29, 1999 their 60th Anniversary was celebrated. Virgil was a homemaker, a 52 year active member of Mason United Methodist Church. She will be especially remembered for her inner strength and love for her family. She loved to travel by train between the Pacific Coast and the Midwest to visit family. Virgil enjoyed flowers and the outdoors, loved sunrises, sunsets, and dark-light contrasts on the skyline. She was a loving and caring wife, a wonderful mother to her children, radiating a calm steadiness, strength, and Christian direction to the family. A totally unselfish person, Virgil gave her family strength, much love, and wisdom her entire lifetime.Memorial Services will be held 1pm, Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Mason United Methodist Church, 2710 N. Madison Street, Tacoma, WA 98407, with burial at Mt. View Memorial Park. The family requests that contributions be made to your favorite charity.
