Dr. Phillips was a thoughtful and caring person who cared deeply about helping those who suffered injustice. We are sorry to hear that our community has lost a good man. He shared his experiences and knowledge with students at the University of Washington with the intention of teaching and to help break the cycle of violence to future generations. He presented to students, faculty and staff on several occasions. We appreciated his support for research in UW Medicine and in the Jackson School for International Studies. He will be missed.

Vincent was a true friend of the Maya Educational Foundation (MEF). He gave not only by contributing financially, but even more so, during our talks, he shared his expertise and experiences. He gave good advice to me on several occasions. I will miss our talks about Guatemala and Chiapas, and on how to help the indigenous people there. I will also miss his humor and his laugh.

Vincent, or Dr. Phillips, as I still called him at times, was instrumental in supporting our effort of bringing a Maya student, Lisbeth, from Guatemala up to the Tacoma area where she gave talks and enlightened U.S. students about her life and medical studies in her country.

He was a treasure and I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. I will miss him a lot.
