Vincent Eldon DeRize's Obituary
Vincent DeRize Sgt. USMC 1948 - 1952 Vincent DeRize passed away on March 16, 2008 at his home. He was preceded in death by his first wife Catherine Kinzel, father Frank DeRize, mother Francis Brown, and brother Lloyd DeRize. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia DeRize, children Richard DeRize, Bruce DeRize (Sheila), Marci Castile (Barry), Cynthia Brown (Dan), Michael Brown, Kerry Milstid (Terry), Marie Murrell (Kelly), and 15 grandchildren. Vince was successful in business, including ownership of Rainier Leasing. He loved his family, finance, boating, fishing, and traveling. Vince loved to be around people, and one of his favorite activities was having family and friends over for barbecues. Vince's heart belonged to the Baker Company, First Battalion, 5th Marines. During the Korean War, Vince was assigned to Baker Co. Machine Guns. Baker Co. was a member of the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, involved in the fierce fighting surrounding the Pusan Perimeter, moving to Pusan to form the 1st Marine Division. With his Marine brothers, Vince landed at Inchon, served with valor during the capture of Seoul and the move north to Wonson, Hungnam and finally the Chosin Reservoir Campaign. During these battles, Vince was wounded twice and suffered severe frostbite. He was evacuated from Hagaru-ri, North Korea and spent several months in the hospital recuperating. Vince dedicated the rest of his life to building a family and career, remaining loyal to his Marine brothers and becoming increasingly involved with them during the last decades of his life. Vince's courage and dedication to duty, honor and country throughout his life will be remembered with full military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery at 11:30 on March 27, 2008 by the Chosin Few, a close group of Marines who were the few to survive the brutal fighting and bitter cold during the Chosin Reservoir Campaign.
