Victoria S. Stray's Obituary
Our beloved mother, Victoria Stray, passed into the loving arms of our Lord on November 3, 2015 while surrounded by her devoted children. She lived 92 years honoring God and sharing her Catholic faith with family and friends.
Our dear mother was born in Utica, New York on Sept. 10, 1923 to Joseph and Sarah Owid. Her parents emigrated from Aleppo, Syria and proudly became U.S. Citizens. One of her fondest memories of her father, Joseph, was seeing him read the Bible in Arabic with tears flowing down his face.
Vicki was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by her brother, William, sister, Agnes, son, Dennis and grandson, Christopher. Vicki was married to Mike Stray for 23 years and they had five children; Linda Hicks (John), Sandie Savoy (Jim) Michael Stray, Dennis Stray (deceased) and Sara Peterson. She loved and adored her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Although she worked for over 30 years as an executive secretary for the Federal Government at McCord A.F.B., her first priority was to raise her children to believe in God. From an early age, she taught us to pray and to believe in the power of prayer which we have passed down to our children and grandchildren. By modeling kindness, compassion, and forgiveness, we would know Jesus through her.
She always encouraged us to pursue our dreams and goals and was proud of even our smallest accomplishments. God blessed us with a precious mother who will always be remembered for the love and joy that she brought into our lives and into the lives of others.
Please join us as we celebrate her life on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1:00 at Holy Cross Catholic Church located at 5510 N. 44th Street in Tacoma with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, in the honor of Victoria's son and our brother Dennis, please make donations to the Mary Bridge Foundation, PO Box 5296, MS409-1-PHIL, Tacoma, WA 98415, or their website at http://waystohelp.multicare.org/ and click on Mary Bridge Leukemia Fund.
