Vernon P. Swanes passed away on May 16, 2003. The first child of Clare and Oswald Swanes, he was born on July 4, 1923 and lived his entire life in Tacoma, WA.Vern graduated from Stadium High School and the University of Washington Read Obituary
I was very sorry to get back into town and hear of Vern's passing. Everyone in our company thought well of Vern and respected him greatly as both a businessman and a family man. I send condolences on behalf of the owners and staff who had the pleasure to work with Vern, and pray that the comforting hand of God is laid upon your hearts in this time of sorrow.

I always admired Vern's dedication to his family. He worked hard to provide for them, and gave them wonderful memories to cherish. I will never forget the 4th of July celebration I attended many years ago...Vern and Viv were generous hosts and I was thrilled to be included. Vern was my first boss. I worked at Northern Fish at Dock street the summer after I graduated from high school in 1966; my first "real job". I grew up behind Oz's house; Vern and my dad were contemporaries.
Vern was of course running the company then, but his dad was still swinging a knife out back!
I hit and damaged the roof of a restaurant with one of the trucks while delivering fish; Vern took it coolly and made that 18 year-old kid I was feel a lot better. I remember that summer and Vern well and happily.
A long and useful life! May he rest in peace and his family have peace. Vern Swanes is remembered.##imported-begin##Ed Winskill##imported-end##
