Vernon G. OlsonNov 18, 1920 - Sept 11, 2006Vernon was the born in Gary, Minnesota into a family of seven brothers and sisters. During World War II, he joined the army serving bravely in the Pacific Theater as a Forward signalman, monitoring troop movements. He worked at St Regis mill as a lumber grader. Vernon and his wife, Helen, were married over 60 years. They built their home on McKinley Hill where he lovingly tended his fruit trees and garden.He and Helen were faithful and active members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where Ben was an usher. Car trips, salmon fishing and a good game of cards brought him joy.Vernon was hard working. He was kind and gentle. He had a great sense of humor. He deeply touched the lives of those who knew him.Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Helen, in 2003. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Irene Olson, her husband, Vearl, and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, September 16th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 101 East 38th Street, Tacoma, WA. Donations may be made in VernonÂ's name to Franciscan Hospice 2901 Bridgeport Way West, University Place, WA 98466 or to a charity of your choice.
