Vernon Gilson Hopkins' Obituary
Vernon G. Hopkins Passed from this life into the hands of our Lord on 6-8-2008 after fighting a three year battle with lung disease and COPD. Vernie was born 11-12-1945 in Tacoma, WA. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind Vickie, his wife of 36 years, his loving children Doreen, Deanna, Dawnelle, (Monte'), and Tearra (Coley) and David (Patty). He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, one brother, Gerald and six sisters, Bonnie, Pene, Phyllis, Linda, Kelly and Thea. He was preceded in death by his son Vernie, his parents Roy and Blanche Hopkins, brothers Leo and Dawain, sisters Lee, Sherry, Connie, and Gayle. Vernie was raised in a family of 16, and has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Vernie was beloved by his family. He was a kind and gentle soul, and would do anything to help someone. He will be missed by all who knew him. Vernie was an Army Paratrooper, a Viet Nam veteran, serving in 1963-66. He retired as a roofer after 30 years. He and Vicky moved to Randall several years ago because they loved the outdoors, picking mushrooms, fishing and enjoying nature. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on 6-23-2008 at Mountain View Garden Chapel.
