Verna (Helf) Compton's Obituary
Verna, born February 23, 1904, passed away September 6th, 2005 in Tacoma, WA. She was 101. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.Born in North Dakota and raised in Chester, Montana, Verna moved to Tacoma in 1923 where she was a longtime sales woman in the shoe department at FisherÂ's Department Store (Bon Marche). After her retirement she traveled the world and touched many lives and made many friends.She was a devoted mother to daughter Eunice Kowalski (Joe), grandmother to Janice Long (Michael), Kristine Cournoyer (Robert) and Mark Kowalski (Jan), great-great-grandmother to Dawn, Amy, Kim, Sean, Keith and Lana, great-great-great-grandmother of 6, many beloved nieces & nephews and her step son, Jack Butcher (Linda) and step daughter Nikki Boyd (Bill). We all love you.Preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and a sister, as well as 3 husbands: John Vaver, JT Butcher and Roy Compton.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Skyline Presbyterian Church, 6301 Westgate Blvd SW, Tacoma, WA.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Skyline Presbyterian Church.
